Landfill Gas to Energy Recovery in Dumaguete

Xeric has made a pre-study for Landfill Gas to Energy Recovery in Dumaguete, Philippines

The objective was to make a Pre-Feasibility Study for the City Government of Dumaguete to identify the possibility of recovering energy from landfill gases at the Candau-Ay dumpsite in Dumaguete and for a possible installation of WTE Facility but also to provide general suggestions for a future direction of solid waste management in Dumaguete.

Methane emitted from landfills is one of the most potent contributors to greenhouse gases in the world and has a global warming potential, which is 25-38 times higher than that of carbon dioxide over 100 years.

The study was conducted during spring 2019 by Xeric in cooperation with JM Global AB and Qualitek Consultants, with the cooperation and support from the City Government of Dumaguete, National Solid Waste Management Commission, Solid Waste Management Association of the Philippines, Asian Development Bank, Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Materials Sustainability, and Biogas Systems AB.

The study has been sponsored by the Swedish Energy Agency.
